New Beginnings | Missoula Senior Portrait Photographer

This senior session was a landmark for me and my seniors. Having just
returned from my Lighting Workshop in France with Nichole Van, this was
the beginning of a new chapter for VioletRay Photography. This session has
me all a-buzz because it was my first session lit with my OCF set up, my
1600 Alien Bee strobe with my 8' umbrella. (YES! 8 feet of parabolic
goodness!)

Lizzie is my Senior SpokesModel for Missoula's Sentinel High School. She
has got the most amazing and gentle spirit, and yet, you can feel her
excitement for life.

We had an extraordinary team make this benchmark session a RAGING success!
Styled by a locally owned boutique, Apricot Lane, Lizzie was totally in
style with all the most amazing new dresses on the market, and my amazing
"senior styling team", Skin Chic and Shear Art, did her hair and make-up
to accent her natural golden glow.

Being able to reach out and work with those in my local community is an
incredible blessing. Knowing that there is someone there who wants to, as
much as CAN, help you out because of good interpersonal relationships is
what makes being a photographer more than just a job. It's a privilege and
a joy!

Avant-Garde

Beauty, Passion, Fashion, and Art.

These are things that made up this session. A local makeup artist and I got together to brain storm on a fun session to get ourselves out of our wet wintertime blues. When we met to discuss it, we knew we wanted high fashion and couture. Then when I pulled out my stash of "GracyLu Original" hats and hair pieces, the puzzle came together.

Jennifer and I knew who our two models were going to be, and based on that, we chose the hair pieces that we wanted them to showcase. From there, we went clothes hunting, choosing very chic and edgy clothing to accent our "center pieces".

When it came to the day of the shoot, it was downpouring torrential buckets of sleet, so we drove up almost 4,200 ft above sea level to the Lolo National Forest and used the natural backdrop of the forest to accent our high fashion, couture style. SUCCESS! The haze of fog coming through the ravine of the mountains gave us a sense of mystery and romanticism that is hard to replicate!

CHIC CRITIQUE COVER CONTEST | Missoula Fashion Photographer

WOW! So I'm not gonna lie, I'm REALLY REALLY excited about this! I get to share this image with everyone as not just a beautiful young lady, but a potential for the NEXT COVER MODEL for Chic Critique Forum! The magazine Chic Critique is doing a contest for photographers to share their work and have it featured on their cover! Each image will be judged by a professional and a panel of Celebrity Photographers, so we know that care will be taken in choosing "THE" image!

So it is with great pride, that I enter this image. Taken in the lovely river that flows through the Rattlesnake Wilderness of Montana, this young woman shows the poise and beauty that runs through the veins of this rugged state.

Kyleigh Senior Session | Missoula Senior Photographer

Kyleigh came to me with ideas of her session. She wanted clean and
country. She wanted to stand out from all her classmates, in form of theme
and location. That got me REALLY excited because I live out in the country
of Florence, MT. We planned her session in her almost 3 weeks in advance,
and started praying that the smoke would all clear out! (Montana and Idaho
have been under extreme fire conditions since June!) When her session time
finally arrived though, the fires of Montana were in full force and
socking my 5 acre parcel of land in with heavy smoke. Kyleigh and her mum
were worried but I just kept reassuring them it was okay! I told them,
"lets just look at this smoke as a natural haze. A nice light diffuser.
It's going to be FINE!"

And it was!!! Each one of her images just naturally glowed! I'm so proud
of this young lady! She really let her inner beauty shine, and I'm also
thankful for the smoke. Not very often you'll hear a person say that...
but without it... this session wouldn't have been the same!

Enjoy the beauty and remember that each individual is beautiful! Inside and out!
